We’re flying back in time with one of this year’s hottest wedding and stationery trends with Persnickety’s current crush . . . steampunk!
What is steampunk? Steampunk is both a fashion style and literary genre that dates back to the late 1800s/early 1900s. It incorporates Victorian fashion with frills, lace, top hats, and vests and turn-of-the-century steam powered technology.
The fun thing about our current crush is its brilliant science fiction twist with innovative technology centered on the use of steam power, including early model airplanes, romantic hot air balloons, industrial steam trains, and classic, Victorian style timepieces.
Think Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Frankenstein, and The Time Machine for literary steampunk inspiration!
Why are we crushing so bad on this trend? Because it is incredibly versatile when it comes to stationery options! There is just so much customization that can be done for all these pieces, including day-of stationery.
We love the vintage typography, especially the combination of smaller and larger font sizes, and the intricate design of the artwork on these steampunk pieces. There is such incredible detail when it comes to design of these invitations, and the dark color palette of rich browns, reds, greys, and coppers allows for a truly unique turn-of-the-century feel. Plus, the vintage, Victorian accessories are too cute for words!
